Guild Wars Wintersday 2007 Contest
The Wintersday 2007 Contest offered one Guild Wars player the opportunity to make a significant and historic mark on the annual holiday celebration. Players were invited to get into the spirit of the season and create a piece of concept art for our traditional Wintersday giveaway: a splendid piece of holiday headgear.
This special seasonal hat is only available on the final day of the festival when Grenth, Lord of Death and Ice, and Dwayna, Goddess of Air and Life, vie for the support of the citizens of Tyria in the thrilling climax to their yearly contest. The winner of this heavenly battle rules the wintry weather in the coming months, and generously rewards his or her loyal supporters with gifts, including a brand new hat.
Players responded to the call for helm concepts with excellent ideas of all kinds. From literally hundreds of designs, the Guild Wars team selected six top winners and fifteen honorable mentions. All of the winners are listed below. You can find the rules for the contest and the list of prizes here.
Thanks to everyone who participated in the contest, and to Ideazon who helped support the prize offerings. We will contact the winners after Wintersday to distribute the prizes. Everyone is invited to see the grand debut of the two new Wintersday helms—including the player-designed* Grenth helm—at 12:01 AM Pacific time (-8 GMT) on January 1, 2008, and every three hours throughout the day.
Happy Wintersday!Winners

*Note: The hat that appears in the game is based upon a player concept, but will not look precisely like the submitted idea. The art team sometimes makes adjustments to player art to assure the design is compatible with other game designs, and artists also often need to modify a design to properly adjust it to character models. For example, because of how character art and armor works together, a hat that sits on the top of the head will make the character appear to be bald, which naturally requires some amendment to work around. With all player-submitted designs, the art team chooses the winning designs and then adjusts them to fit into the Guild Wars world.
Guild Wars Wintersday 2007 Contest
What says holiday like a new hat? Wintersday may feature the Snowball Arena, special drops, new NPCs, a peppy holiday score, and a dozen other seasonal elements, but at the end of the day, the party lasts for but a few days, and the hat is forever.
We’re thrilled to let you know that this year, the Guild Wars Art Team is going to use a fan-created concept as a basis for their design of the Grenth Wintersday helm. This means that when the yearly Wintersday battles take place between Dwayna and Grenth, the hat that Grenth gifts to players may be based on your design!
To enter the contest, simply send us a drawing, sketch, or printed image of an original new hat design that has both a Grenth and a Wintersday theme. Consider the hats of yesteryear: The Great Horns of Grenth, the Jester’s Cap, and the first Wintersday helm—the classic Horns of Grenth—for inspiration. Then come up with your own unique design, and send it in! The prize? A wonderful gift package from our partners at Ideazon, makers of the new Guild Wars Z-Board. In addition, five other contestants will receive Ideazon prizes, and fifteen others will receive an in-game miniature!

Guild Wars Halloween Art Contest 2007 Winners
Hundreds of entries later, after votes, tabulations, a tie-breaker, and much excited discussion, we've determined the winners of the Guild Wars Halloween Art Contest 2007! The seasonal spirit was very evident in the entries and the quality was simply stupendous.
Due to the extraordinary number of contest entries—and considering the amount of exceptional art that they presented—we have expanded this year's prize pool. This year, the Guild Wars Team, who served as our judges* selected a grand prize winner and a total of 10 winners, five each in the Art and Costume categories. Beyond that level, we recognise 20 honourable mentions, and 70 finalists.
All who placed in the contest will be notified by email within the next 10 days, and we will be sending out prize packages** after we receive the required email confirmation from each of those who placed in the contest.
Thank you to all who entered—your art has made our Halloween holiday spirit even brighter.

As the nights grow long and leaves shift from green to gold, while squirrels scurry to prepare their winter stores and autumn curls chilly fingers around the mornings, our thoughts turn, once again, to that most beloved of holiday seasons—Halloween!
With that in mind, you are hereby invited to put your imagination and creative talents to work crafting Halloween art with a Guild Wars theme. This is our third annual opportunity to celebrate the season with the entire Guild Wars community. Past contests have provided many wonderful chills, thrills, and a few chuckles, too. Guild Wars: Eye of the North - Brand the Bosses 2007 Contest
The first expansion pack from ArenaNet®—Guild Wars: Eye of the North™—will hit shelves in the third quarter of 2007. Although primarily set in the northern reaches of Tyria, Eye of the North has cultural and historical ties to both Cantha and Elona as well. As players traverse these lands and delve deep inside the dungeons of GW:EN, they will encounter horrific creatures of all kinds. Each will be a master of one of the ten professions: Assassin, Dervish, Elementalist, Mesmer, Monk, Necromancer, Paragon, Ranger, Ritualist, and Warrior. Some of these creatures may be familiar, such as the Charr, but others will be strange and wondrous beings never seen before.
The Guild Wars team would like to invite players from around the world to participate in the 2007 “Brand the Bosses” Contest. This monster-naming competition will allow Guild Wars fans to dream up creative names for boss monsters. All names submitted will be considered by the designers as possible boss monster handles for use in the Guild Wars: Eye of the North expansion.
So, thinking back on such stylish monikers as Plexus Shadowhook, Bonfaaz Burntfur, Razorfang Hazeclaw, Selwin the Fervent, and Mirash Dreambreaker, attach a Rune of Clarity to your thinking cap and devise a name for a new boss. Send us your single best idea, and we will choose at least ten from all entries to incorporate into Guild Wars: Eye of the North. Players whose names are chosen will receive website recognition and spiffy Guild Wars gifts, too!

If a non-English name is selected, the team will do its best to retain that name in its original language while localizing it for the other supported languages.)
- Names should be appropriate for a global audience, and for players of all ages and cultures.
- Names should be at least two words, as in the examples above.
- Include your first and last name, your age, and your city, state, postal code (if any), and country in the email. Guild Wars Design-A-Weapon Contest
Players love new and special items, and we love including players in the creation of those items! We’d like to invite you to participate in our Guild Wars Design-A-Weapon Contest, where you have an opportunity to submit your vision of a cool new weapon and to possibly see it become a permanent part of Guild Wars.
We are looking for creative and appealing new designs for all sorts of weapons: swords, axes, bows, hammers, spears, rods, wands, scythes, staves, and daggers. Not to be forgotten are the shields and focus items that are also used in combat. You may draw your design inspiration from any of the regions: Tyria, Cantha, or Elona.
To enter the contest, simply send us a drawing, sketch, or printed image of an original new weapon, shield, or focus item and submit it to us for judging. The prize? Up to twenty of the best designs will be placed permanently into the Guild Wars world, and the designers of these weapons will win website recognition and Guild Wars goodies, too!

We'd love to invite everyone, however we simply do not have enough space. So instead, you're going to have to show us why we should invite YOU to come and join in the fun. If you are willing to pay your own expenses to attend the party, read below for details on how you can win one of the limited number of invitations.
Of course we'd never think of excluding those of you who can't make it from the fun, so we're running two Winter Party Contests in tandem. You're welcome to enter either, or even both, of these contests: "Creative Winter Party Contest" and / or "Winter Party Invitation Contest." Each contest has a separate prize pool (see below). So, how do you enter?

Craft us an invitation to our own party, design a Guild Wars party game or design a suit of clown armour for an NPC. Your imagination is the limit! First prize includes one amazing limited edition Guild Wars iPod Nano and ZBoard™ keyboard with Factions keyset, while 2nd through 4th prizes include a ZBoard™ keyboard with Factions keyset. The ten best entries will all receive a Nightfall cap and shirt.
To enter the "Winter Party Invitation Contest"

We have twenty-five (25) invitations for you and one (1) guest to attend the party to be held in Brighton, United Kingdom, on Saturday, 3rd February 2007. You'll be able to indulge yourself in a variety of Guild Wars activities and vie with your fellow guests to win some fantastic prizes, including a fantastic limited edition Guild Wars branded iPod Nano!
You must include the following with your statement:
In order for us to be assured that you will handle all transportation and accommodation needs that you may have, please include this statement in your entry: "I understand that if I am a winner in the Guild Wars Winter Party Contest I will receive only an invitation for myself and one guest to the party on February 3rd 2007. The nights grow long and the snow level is dropping. Is that the sheen of ice in the Lion’s Arch fountain? Do you hear the Elonians warming up their voices in preparation for caroling in Kamadan? Ok, enough seasonal references, let’s move on to the good bits: We’re happy to announce the first annual Guild Wars Wintersday Art Contest! That’s right: Wintersday is coming, and with it comes the opportunity to share seasonal Guild Wars goodness with others—in your own neighborhood, in your guild, and around the world.
You are invited to put your imagination and your artistic talents to work in crafting a piece of seasonal art with a holiday tone and a Guild Wars theme. Perhaps it’s an invitation to the Wintersday Festival or a poster celebrating the event. Or maybe it’s a collage of seasonal art with Guild Wars characters, or a screenshot from last year’s festival with your own artistic touches added. All ideas are welcome, and a side benefit for the Dev Team is that some of the fan art will be printed to decorate our office this holiday season. So share the joy!
How to Enter
- Create an original piece of art with a traditional winter holiday theme and a Guild Wars flavour. You may draw your own art using any media at your disposal. You may also use or incorporate screenshots, renders, concept art, icons, photographs, or any other Guild Wars images to create your entry.
- Save your art (or scan and save) as a .jpeg file and attach it to an email.
- In the body of the email, provide us the following information (in English): your first and last name, your age, and your full address, including street number and name, city, state or province, postal code (if any) and country.
- Indicate your published name preference (in the event you are cited as a winner or honourable mention): real name or pseudonym. If you prefer that we list you by a handle or in-game name, please provide that name and clearly indicate that preference in your entry email.
- Submit your entry to this address: . Please be sure to use ”Guild Wars Wintersday Art Contest” as the subject line. If you would prefer to postal mail your entry—or if you would like to send a copy of your holiday art to the team in addition to entering via email—you can send to Sponsor:

Nightfall Guild Emblem Contest Winners
As is our tradition as we prepare for a new game release, we invited players from around the world to provide us with their ideas for exciting new guild emblems, particularly those with the new game's theme, region, or story in mind. During the month of August and September, gamers submitted their entries in the Nightfall Guild Emblem Contest, and from those wonderful submissions, more than a dozen winners and ten honourable mentions were selected.
The Nightfall Guild Emblem Contest drew a large number of entries—from cities in Asia, villages in Europe, and towns in North America. The final emblems will be incorporated into the game in the weeks following the release of Guild Wars Nightfall. That will make them available to all Guild Wars players, no matter the campaigns that they may be playing, no matter their location. And at sometime in the future, the honourable mention entries just might make their way into the game, too, you never know!
We are pleased to display the entries that placed in the contest, and thank the many hundreds of players for sharing their creativity and love of Guild Wars with us.

Guild Wars Nightfall Guild Emblem Contest
With the recent announcement of the next campaign in the Guild Wars saga—Guild Wars Nightfall—we are delighted to announce a brand new Guild Wars guild emblem contest. Guild emblems are those distinctive icons that adorn a character’s cape and show his or her allegiance to a particular guild. With the release of Guild Wars Nightfall™, our artists will be expanding your guild emblem choices, and you can help, too!
We invite you to design a new and attractive guild graphic and submit it to us for judging. The prize? Up to 12 of the best symbols will be placed permanently into the Guild Wars emblem catalogue and will appear in Guild Wars Nightfall upon release or in an update soon after release. When added to the game, the emblems will be available for use by players around the world.
In addition to inclusion in the game and recognition on our global websites, winners will also receive a full set of the eight collectible Guild Wars Skill Pins.
Official Rules and Conditions:
- Print your design on a sheet of paper no larger than 8.5 by 11 inches or 210×297 mm, and submit to one of the following addresses:
- Clearly mark the back of the guild emblem print with your first and last name, your age, your email address, and your full mailing address (in English, please). Indicate if you wish to be recognized by your real name or your in-game “handle” if you are listed as a winner. In any regard, we must have your full name and mailing address in order to send your prize.
- The use of colour in your submitted image is entirely your choice. Because Guild Wars capes are customizable, color is less significant than design, so a black and white image is as likely to win as a colour image.
- The native resolution of these images will be 128 x 128 pixels. It is helpful to keep this in mind while you are designing your emblem, as fine details may not be reproducible. It’s also important to note that images based on a square visual area are better than those that are extremely wide or very narrow.
- Submit the guild emblem art only; do not include a cape, character drawing or any other background image.
- Each final guild emblem will be produced by the Guild Wars Art Team using a winning contest entry as a starting concept. The art included in the game may not be an exact duplicate of the winning entry.
- Any form of entry other than those described herein is void.

Guild Wars Factions Guild Emblem Contest
Factions Guild Emblem Contest Winners
During the months of March and April 2006, we offered another opportunity for gamers to play an active role in enhancing the Guild Wars world. In celebration of the new game—Guild Wars Factions—players were invited to design and submit their favorite concept for a new guild emblem. The contest rules for the Factions Guild Emblem Contest can be found below.
The Factions Guild Emblem Contest drew entries from around the world—from four continents and more than a thousand fans. The art was as distinctive as the players themselves, with images based on nature, on combat, on cultural themes, and on just about everything in between. A few entries were so excellent it was impossible to sort out the best of a certain type. In those cases, we submitted two, or even three, similar images to the judges. All winning entries will form the inspiration or the core concept from which the Art Team will work as they create the actual guild image.
The final emblems will be incorporated into the game within the next few months, and will then be available to all Guild Wars players. We will update this page when the final art is available, so you can see the new guild emblems!

Guild Wars Factions Guild Emblem Contest
Last year around this time, we asked, "How would you like to make a little Guild Wars® history?" We ask it again, with the start of our second Guild Emblem Contest. Guild emblems are those distinctive icons that adorn a character's cape and show his or her allegiance to a particular guild. With the release of Guild Wars Factions™, we'll be offering you even more guild emblem choices.
And to boost those number even further, and give you a chance to play a role in emblem creation, the Guild Wars team wants to invite all fans to design a new and attractive guild graphic and submit it to us for judging. The prize? Up to 12 of the best symbols will be placed permanently into the Guild Wars Factions emblem catalogue and will appear in the game in an update soon after release. When added to the game, the emblems will be available for use by players around the world.
In addition to inclusion in the game, and website recognition, winners will also receive a Guild Wars t-shirt.

Design-a-Weapon Contest
Complete Winners List
It's time for another Guild Wars contest! And with the Design-a-Weapon Contest, you have a chance to be immortalized forever in the second chapter of the Guild Wars story. We will be offering many new weapons and shields in the upcoming installment, and we'd love to include items based on your concepts. To enter the contest, simply send us a drawing, sketch, or printed image of a weapon or shield that you have designed.
The next release of Guild Wars will feature new weapon types, but for now you should design around the traditional Guild Wars items:
You need not keep your weapon or shield concepts within the boundaries of the Tyria that we know so well. In the coming chapter, there will be new professions and new regions that have not yet been explored. Feel free to engage in an artistic flight of fancy and to include art influences from around the globe in your weapon or shield design!

Design-a-Weapon Contest Winners
The world of Guild Wars Factions will be filled with many new weapons and items. And some of these were directly conceived and inspired by our players themselves. In November and December of 2005, we invited Guild Wars players to submit their design concepts for weapons for the upcoming campaign of Guild Wars. (You can read the contest rules here.) From the more than 1,000 entries, the Guild Wars Team selected 8 winners and approximately 20 honorable mentions. The winning entries – displayed below – will be present in Guild Wars Factions at release. In addition, due to the high quality of so many of the entries, we will be incorporating many of the honorable mentions into Guild Wars and Guild Wars Factions in the months following release of the second campaign. We'll post about the new weapon additions on the news page, and will be sure to add more images here to show the increasing number of cool new weapons, as they were conceived by Guild Wars players.
